The rumour of ghost sightings, therefore, might not be related to Houdini, but to the scandalous murder cases that happened here before Houdini’s time. But there were unconfirmed documents or pictures of the man himself being photographed here. Situated in Laurel Canyon, the area was once a lookout mountain where Houdini used this place to practice his underwater routines. ![]() Having gone through some brush fire, the current mansion is a restoration of the classic, palatial European house with stone carvings, waterfalls, exotic plants and French gardens. This is not how they’re meant to be played. If we were newbies, we’d be so put off by escape rooms, we wouldn’t bother doing another one. We had my husband’s brother with us who had never played before and I’m so disappointed this was his first foray into escape rooms. He wouldn’t let us finish anything or touch anything to see how the game ended. Normally when you fail a room they let you play to the end, with them explaining what to do. He was actually in character and seemed into it so it was odd when he seemed that he just mostly wanted to go home. He also said he gave us an extra 10 minutes? No. Huh? We arrived before 9:15! Our game ended promptly at 10:09. He said we only had 40 minutes to play before leaving. His opening explanation was so long that we started the game at 9:28 (yes, I checked my phone - we were allowed to have them inside). She said she’d let our Game Master know and as long as we were there before 9:15, we were fine, but if we got there later than 9:15, they have to start the time. We called ahead to let them know we’d be five minutes late due to snow. As someone who has played more than 100 escape rooms, I’ve never had worse customer service at an escape room. The game itself is fine and if you’re given the full hour, is probably something we would have enjoyed.
